BadEvan needs your help! As many of you know, I have been suffering from Sever Ulcerative Colitis for a couple of years now. The medication I’m on was never supposed to be a long term treatment. Very high doses of steroids. They are taking their toll on my body. The side effects are becoming just as bad as the disease. But if I go off the meds I end up in the hospital for a week or two. Needing heavier steroids, antibiotics, morphine and blood transfusions the whole time. No fun at all!
The doctors have said that they can’t keep me on that treatment any longer. It’s time to operate! I have to have a complete Colectomy. You know, they go in and take out your entire large intestine, colon and rectum. That’s why I haven’t written anything in the past 15 days. I’ve been pretty down about the whole thing. On top of that mental crap, I physically feel like a bag of poop.
After the surgery, and the year long recovery, I’ll have a much better quality of life. I’ll be able to do things again. It’s a good thing I guess. I have been home bound for most of the past 2 years. Again, no fun. Especially since I’m a single 26 year old, very cute guy. I even had to move in with the mother!
I’ve tried many of the drug treatments, herbals, and spiritual treatments (even tried some Japanese ionic water). They just didn’t work for me. I have a very sever case that is resistant to drug therapies. If you want to no more about UC, the treatments and the major side effects you can go to Wikipedia or the NIH.
Anyway, life will be better. It’s dramatic but needed. There are many very scary life changing risks that go along with the 6 hr long surgery. Things that are very personal and very scary. Lets just say that there is a big chance that not all of BadEvan, wink wink, will ever function again. :( I’ve been alone through most of this ordeal. Even now I really haven’t had anyone to talk to about the Mr. Winky situation. My mother is a nurse, but dude… Who wants to talk to their mother about their penile function, or lack there of?
So what do I need from you? Money! The surgery is covered as are my medical supplies that I’ll need. So, what’s the money for? When I have the surgery, I’ll be in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. Alone, again. It’s to far for my family to drive and they can’t afford to both pay for a hotel room for 2 weeks and take that time off from work. So, the money is going to be used so that my family can be with me through my hospital stay. Knowing that they are going to be able to be there with me will relieve some of the stress. I’m a proud guy and I didn’t really want to bring all of this up here, I don’t know why. I don’t mind sharing my troubles, but this is very personal and kind of emberacing. But I have hit a wall mentally and financially. The cheapest room I could find for the 2 weeks will be about $1,000. They were nice enough to give us break from their regular fees, otherwise it would have been almost double that. The surgery is scheduled for May 8th. The Docs can’t hold it off any longer. I have to be on my current meds for the surgery, otherwise I literally wouldn’t make it. But they can’t let me stay on the meds for more than a week. :(
Like I said I’m a proud guy. I don’t want a handout. I’ll trade you for your help and generosity. Aside from helping a great guy that has always been there for others, you’ll get Adspace. Anyone who sends me $100, through Paypal, will get TWO(2) years of advertising on BadEvan.com. I’m going to put up a new side bar on the left hand side of this screen. This will be called “My Heroes” and will display, with Follow, 125×125 ads from my supporters. If you don’t have 125×125 ad, I’ll make one for you. If you think about it this is a great deal. Why is it a great deal?
If you are an EntreCarder…look at it like this: My widget cost an average of 128ec per day, multiply that by 2 years. That’s 93,440ec!!! The current cash price for ECs is $2.50 for 500. That means, it would cost you $467.20 for a full 2 years on my widget. That’s a savings of $367.20! Still need more reasons…
Well, here are my stats:

Remember, you’ll be doing me a great favor. Like the Godfather, I wont forget it. You need daily stumbles? Maybe more link love or comments? I’ll be there for you. So, if you can help and want the Adspace, please send your contributions through PayPal to paypal@badevan.com before May 6th. Since the surgery is on May 8th we need a couple of days to make sure everything is squared away.

Sorry to hear that you have a problem :( At first I didn’t like how you replied to my comment with such an high attitude, which describes your domain name in a way, but it’s fine. I don’t have money to support the cause, but hopefully others can help you get through this. Good luck to you and god bless :)
-Mike
p.s. Use http://dnscoop.com to check stats.
I am so sorry Evan, I also have Chron’s and I know how horrible it is. I am not in a position to give money but you will certainly be in my prayers.

Hi Evan,
I can’t afford $100 right now, but I’d like to help, if I can. Are you willing to accept a smaller donation?
You can contact me via email.
Regardless, I wish you the very best, and will keep you in my thoughts.
Nicole
I will see if I can arrange to participate. In the mean time, contact me off blog. I will gladly give you a pre and post op audio to listen to (free) if you are interested. Plus, we can arrange a phone session, to help you through this, if you want.
This is like the one disease I’ve never heard of, probably because it was never featured on America’s Next Top Model, but it sounds atrocious. Get better, Evan.
Now put a PW ad on your site and I’ll bid it up.
@Mike - Yeah, sometimes I can be an ass, Okay most of the time ;) But now I understand more clearly the point you were making so we can “kiss” and makeup. Plus you get props for coming here to support me!
@QueerUnity - It’s cool, prayers are great too! What treatment are you on for Chron’s? How long have you been diagnosed with it?
@Kelly aka Aerten - Keep rolling those pennies babe. If Apollo turns out to be a frakin’ toaster, then he can scare me any day.
@AmyOops - I can’t stand those companies, they take a huge cut for your efforts. But you can send any amount you want through PayPal. I will reward even the smallest donation :)
@Susie - I wish I was super rich, too!LOL. But every dollar helps and will be rewarded. I fixed your comment so it would link properly to your site ;)
@BillyWarhol - Well, I don’t think I’ll be robbing any banks. But you never know! Thanks for the laugh.
@Nicole - You can send however much you want or can. All will get a permanent link of some sort. Thank you for the support.
@Debbie aka Wisdom Hypnosis - It would be great if you can find a way to “participate”. I will deff take you up on the offer for pre and post op audio! I’ve never done that before, but I’m sure it would help in some way. Even if it can just decrease my anxiety level.
@Stan - LMAO, I guess I could be like that girl that passed out at the judges table. That was priceless. Or like the girl with no short-term memory. Wait…what was I talking about? As I said to AmyOops I don’t like PW, TopSpots, AdSense or any other program that takes a cut from you. But you can send any amount through PayPal. All will be rewarded. Thanks boo!
@DiggDuhh - Thanks for the write up! You rock!
Evan,
I know you’re strong and we all appreciate you sharing this with us. Though $100 may be to much for me to afford, I can send you something that could help. If everyone just sent a few dollars or even $10, what would that do? It would help!
I hope you get some good DVDs to watch while you rest. BSG, of course, and did you watch Alias? I liked that one a lot. It went several seasons, so that would fill up lots of boring hours of bedrest. Will be thinking of you. :-)
@Blogzilla - I was afraid of talking about this and asking for help, at first. But I thought about it a decide it would be better for me and my family if I did. Anybody can send any amount all will be rewarded with some sort of link and greatly appreciated. I know not everyone can spare a C-note, gas prices being what they are. Every dollar helps!!!
@G Momma - I do plan on taking many a DVDs with me. I will have my BSG collection, I’ll miss 3 of the new epis :( I’ll also have some West Wing and a couple of zombie flicks. I hope I have a private room. But mostly I’ll be drooling on myself, like Stan, for the 15 days. Morphine pump, holla!
Thanks for the support, babe! ;)
Please get well Evan.
Gotcha…
Keep smiling through the tough spots… Laughter is a healer…
Hurry up and bring your ass back to EC while recovering and drop on me… =)
Not that kind of drop…I mean…
Hello?
You’re a tough hombre - I admire your character and your courage - keep a strong heart - you will never know how many you have helped carry on in similar situations by posting your trials.
You have my utmost respect - you have earned your place on this earth tenfold.
Hats off to you!
I just read about you on Technology blog and wanted to help. My son has Crohn’s disease which luckily has been in remission for a few years now. But I know everything about these 2 diseases and feel terrible and wish you the best. I will be making a donation. Good luck.
I have a friend who suffers from this same condition. Hope you will get better after your treatment.
:) Heck, if I could send Lee — toaster or not — you’d be very swiftly cheered back to health. Found a bunch of pennies; heading over to paypal.
I wanted to give everyone an update.
You all have helped raise $475.65 of our $1100 goal. All of your efforts are really paying off. My family and I are both touched and moved at your undying generosity.
It’s been a rough couple of days. I normally would of had my monthly blood transfusion on last Wednesday. But the hospital decide to postpone it until this Wednesday, the day before my surgery. That way I’ll have a little bit better stats the day of.
Down side of that, is I’m very tired. It’s been hard to even get up and do simple things around the house. I didn’t watch my DVR of BSG until today. My wireless route crapped out late Friday night. luckily, I had an older one in the closet. But, I couldn’t get out of bed to mess with it until today. It’s hooked up now. So, I can blog and drop from bed :)
I want to thank everyone again. Man, I feel like a PBS Telethon. We are almost half way to our goal, with a couple of days left. If anyone has any ideas on ways that we can increase the efforts, I’m all ears. They are kind of big BTW. lol.
Thanks
@Blogzilla - Thank you again so much! It was really cool of you to write about my situation and encourage your readers to help me out. You are my HERO! I can’t say it enough!
@Louie - I’m sure after this is all said and done, I’ll be back to my normal “Bad” self. HeHe.
@Cecilia - Thank you so much for your help and encouragement. You should still see drops from me while I’m in the hospital. My lil sister will be dropping, emailing and commenting for me. The comments will be from me but she’ll be posting them, as long as they make sense.
@CatsWithThumbs - I was afraid at first to post all this. I know I talk about a lot of personal stuff, but this was different. Very personal and painful. I decide that I needed the help and encouragement. I do hope that others out there can find comfort and strength through my dealings. Thanks, Babe!
@Jennifer - I’m glad to hear that your son has his Chron’s under control. It’s sad that there is so little known about our illnesses. They hope that my UC wont turn into Chron’s later down the road. I didn’t know that was a fear until 2 days ago. If that happens…God help us! Then I’d really be screwed. Since Chron’s has even less options for people who are Non-Responsive to medication, like me. But let’s not think about that now. Happy thoughts, Happy thoughts. BTW, how old is your son? Did they catch it early?
@archondigital - How is your friend doing? Has he had success with meds or is he surgery bound, too? Feel free to pass my info along to him. I have an un-official support group for people with Chron’s and Colitis. Thank you so much for your help!
@Kelly aka Aerten - Yes, if you could send me Lee… Damn! I would change my name to Aerten’s Bitch. BTW, PayPal was bitching about having to re-roll all those pennies. I told ‘em to suck it! Thanks, babe!
Thanks for the Comment, Evan. Yeah, ER doctors suck. I’ve never heard before of your illness. So, I’m gonna have to read up on it. I wish I could help, but Money is Tight around here right now. Don’t you just love how you get stereotyped when you are Gay? My Uncle is Gay and he has the same problems, although not that bad since Germany isn’t like the U.S. Anyways, I hope everything will work out for you with the surgery. Keep us updated!
I got it posted for ya. Hope it helps
So sad you’ll be missing new BSG episodes in the hospital! When you’re in for your next transfusion, see if they have any of that hybrid Cylon-human baby blood. That fixed up Roslin pretty well, for a couple years, anyway… :-)
send me an email dude, I’ll help. - John
Hope you’ll feel a lot better, Evan and wish you don’t have that moon face thinggy like a friend of mine who uses steroids for her lupus.
I hope that the surgery goes well. Good luck to you and the fund raising for the hotel for your family. I hope you achieve your goal.
I can’t believe that you sent me money while you’ve that situation. Now, I feel bad because of that.
I have got around $20 dollars on my paypal account and going to send it you now.
It wont be much, prob $10. But hey, every bit right? :)
Evan, I have ulcerative colitis also, though not as bad as you do. I feel for you. Email me on how to do the paypal. I’m lucky I have family near me. Also, I read a great book on things to speed recovery after surgery. Let us all know the time and date, and we can all send positive thoughts, ask the anesthesiologist (sp?) to tell you everything is fine and that you will recover fast while you are going down and coming back up, and if possible, get a massage therapist to come to the hospital. You are in my prayers.
Hi guy! just started reading your blog recently - wow- what drama! And you are so young - you think everyone that is young and healthy and won’t have that kind of medical drama till they are older - but, you never know. Thats why we try to live EVERY day like it could be our last - you just never know. We can’t afford $100 but would like to contribute - contact me ASAP - we are heading out of town Friday AM.
If you email me and don’t hear back…It’s because I’m in the hospital. They say there is internet access, but I don’t believe them. Plus I’m not sure I should be emailing or posting while on a Morphine pump. Could be fun though.
@Alexandra - Germany has historically been one of the most gay friendly countries around. Well, excluding the whole “Night of the Long Swords” thing and the rest of 1940-45. If you wanna see what queer Germany was like at the turn of WW2, check out “Bent”.
@G Momma - God bless the DVR! Funny, when I went for my transfusion back in February, I did ask the Tech if they had any Cylon/Human blood. She actually knew what I was talking about!
@John Painz - Thanks for the help man. I know the pain of working retail and of the high-end soap business. More on that later. But I feel ya.
@BendzG - I do actually have moon face and thrush, bone loss, memory loss, stretch marks and many other side-effects from the steroids. Tell your friend to hang in there. If she ever needs to talk to some one that’s been on the meds…I’m here. Really!
@Drew - You absolutely were not too late. Thanks buddy!
@Mehmet - That was a while ago. Before I knew that I was gonna have the surgery right away. BTW his themes kick-ass! Go check them out.
@AvidReader2008 - Thanks for the support. How long have you had UC? Does any IBD run in your family? You’ve been doing well on meds? Heavy steroids or Salfa? I sent you an email.
@Michael and Derrick - Thanks guys for the major support. The drama. Yeah, I seem to be surrounded by it at times. I do hope to be writing about more of the fun side of queer community, soon. I hope to be up and about by the time Pride rolls around. This would be my first time missing it :( I’ll probably go to Indy pride as Chicago and NYC will be to far to travel. Where are you guys going on Friday?
In an effort to raise awareness about your drama - I am posting an article on our New Gay Travel Guide -and Official Life By Design sites today - maybe we can help raise a few more dollars for you! - If you ever get to Chicago, look us up! - We are off to Prague tomorrow! We got a free trip through our travel site. Be well and we’ll talk soon!
M&D
My son was diagnosed with Crohn’s when he was 12, he must have had it for about a year by then. He had a few really bad years, and with Crohn’s you when it is bad your body doesn’t absorb any nutrition so at this time of life, he stopped growing and didn’t enter puberty. Luckily, at 14 he entered a remission and his body got back to normal. Since then, he has had a few temporary reoccurrences, but all he needed was some short term doses of prednisone and he’s been fine and living as if he doesn’t have any disease at all.
I hope after this surgery that will happen to you!!!
Evan,
I hope that you reached your goal. I was happy to help. Good luck on your surgery. God Bless.
Peace, rest and heal now my friend.
Evan,
I admire your Spirit and Humor during this difficult time in your life. As an RN I understand the seriousness of what you are undergoing…what a blessing it is that your mother is an RN to help you through the long road of recovery. I will keep you in prayer for strength, courage and healing with minimal discomfort and no complications.
I hope all is well with you, Evan. Keeping you in my thoughts.
hey hope that you are doing well and getting better every day one of my friends had his large intestine removed and is doing good so lets hope that its the same for you take care.

Get Well soon man, I know you will stay strong and work through this.
